Between Yugoslavia and Turkey, on 11 June 1919, an agreement was reached on the expulsion of Turks from Kosovo, Macedonia and Sandzak to Turkey. The Yugoslav government took advantage of this agreement to relocate Albanians from their lands. It paid the Turkish government 500 florins for each displaced family. Until 1937, 100,000 Kosovars were expelled from their homes. Meanwhile, in the vacated lands, 40,000 Serbian columns were planted. The colonization of Albanian territories continued until 1940.
