The Ecumenical Patriarchate of Istanbul formally recognized the autocephaly of the Albanian Orthodox Church, on April 12th, 1937. This avoided the foreign interference in the affairs of our church and practically the efforts of the Greek invasion for Hellenising the Albanian Orthodox. The efforts for the autocephalous church or the Albanian independence begin with the first Renaissance: Vangjel Meski, Dhaskal Todri, Grigor Gjirokastriti, etc.
