Today is commemorated Halim Xhelo, the People’s Hero. Fighter of Çeta of Spiro Ballkameni, one of the organizers and fighters of the War of Vlora in 1920, participant and supporter of the Revolution of June 1924 for which he was sentenced to death in absentia by the government of King Zog. In exile studied social and political sciences at the University of Florence. After graduation he directed the newspaper “Politika” and edited the journal “Liria Kombëtare”. He lived and worked in France, Switzerland, Belgium, Greece, Austria, Germany and the Soviet Union. As an activist of the Comintern, he tried to create in the ranks of political emigrants the resistance front against Nazi fascism that threatened the freedom and independence of Albania. He died on February 13th, 1937 at the age of 43 years.
