Nako Spiru
Today is commemorated the antifascist fighter, the prominent economist and politician Nako Spiru. He was among the leaders of the National Liberation War, who worked primarily with the youth and clandestine press, was elected to the higher organs of the Albanian Communist Party. After the liberation, he was appointed as Minister of Economy and the Chairman of the Planning Commission of State. He was a victim to the intervention of Belgrade and the Yugoslav aims, to turn Albania into the seventh republic of Yugoslavia. He killed himself on 20 November 1947.
