On August 21, 1920, Yugoslav forces broke out a well-organized attack and invaded Kelmendi, Kastrati, Shkrel and Koplik. To cope with aggression in the Highlands of Shkodra, over 3000 armed volunteers gathered, 400 other fighters watched on the banks of Buna from other attacks expected by neighboring chauvinists. Faced with Albanian resistance and international pressure, the aggressors were forced to retreat, leaving behind burnt and destroyed villages.
