In Thessaloniki on January 23rd, 1909, died the activist of the national movement Halit Bërzeshta. He was born in 1840, in Bërzeshta and graduated for pharmacy in the military medical school in Istanbul. He collaborated with Frashëri brothers for the diffusion of newspapers and books in Albanian language.Supported the League of Peja and was among the founders of the “Committee for the Freedom of Albania” which was set up in Monastery. For his patriotic activity was sentenced to death, but because of numerous protests, the sentence was turned into eternal exile in Beirut. In 1908 he returned to Albania.
