At the initiative of Abdul Frasher, on 23 July 1880, representatives from all over the country gathered in Gjirokastra. In the Assembly of Gjirokastra, the issue of Albania’s autonomy, the time of revelation and the way of its achievement, became apparent. Most of the delegates spoke of the armed struggle and this was when the Great Gate was recognizing the occupation of Albanian lands by the Montenegrin and Greek armies. Under these conditions, the League of Prizren would take over political power and proclaim itself, the Provisional Government, with all the constraints stemming from it. The decisions of the Gjirokastra Assembly marked a step forward towards the formation of the Albanian national state.
