At the age of 93, died in Tirana on January 28th, 1997, Mikel Koliqi the first cardinal in the history of the Albanian Catholic Church. He spent 37 years in communist prisons. Five years after the democracy and the opening of the churches, in November 1995, the Holy See chose him Cardinal.
