Mehmet Dërralla
On December 4th, 1912, was established the Albanian Army. Since the first day of its establishment, the national army has had as a sacred duty, the protection of the territorial integrity and national sovereignty. For the first time in old history of our nation was established the Ministry of Defence (Ministry of War) led by Mehmet Pash Dërralla and the General Staff, headed by Major Ali Shefqet Shkupi. Our army has never passed the boundaries of the motherland, has never violated the freedom and independence of neighboring countries and peoples. Since April 4th, 2009 the Albanian army is part of NATO.
