In a patriotic family from Kolonja, located in Bitola, onJanuary 4th, 1861, was born the patriot, teacher and publicist Gjerasim Qiriazi. Equipped with a wide culture and connoisseur of several languages, he wrote and translated several texts for Albanian schools. He is the author of one of the first grammar of the language. In 1981, together with his sisters Sevasti and Parashqevi, he opened the first school for girls in Korca, Albania. The book “Hristomathi”, which was published in 1902 and society “Vllazëria”, organized in Korca, helped for the Albanian patriotic education.
