On the facade of Apollonia church, in April 1260, is painted the family portrait of Mihal Paleologu, a rare fresco of Byzantine Emperor, with great artistic and historical value. It seems that Paleologu, who had come in Albanian areas to lead the wars against Angioni, is also the donor family, as they were called at that time the sponsors of this ornament, or ornamenting the sanctuary in general. The fresco has a great importance because it is one of the first works of medieval art in our country, which reflects secular figures. It is a fact more, for the verification of the hypothesis on the Albanian origin of the emperor and the Paleologus dynasty.
