The insurgent’s leaders of the province of Mati, on November 7th, 1594, were gathered at St. Maria Assembly, to organize and direct the liberation war against the Ottoman rule. Among the initiators and leaders of the assembly was Tomë Plezha, rider in the army of Venice. He was committed to the national issue, and together with Mark Gjini, he went to Rome, to attract the attention of the West and to ask for assistance to anti-ottoman war.
