Ismail Kadare
The league of the writer represents a typical Albanian history. There is a date of the establishment, activities of many decades, names of well known artists, tragically long list with convicted members, a lack o funds, left in silence, closure, etc. Albanian especially elements in this story are the positive purpose of establishing ,the talent that was censored for the artists, the usage for the interests of the power during the communism, hope for freedom from the dictatorship after the 90s and neglecting until closing for lack of funds in our days.
The League of Writers and Artists was established on October 7th, 1947. First was established the league of the writers, then in 1919 the league of the artists, while in 1957 was made their union in one institution only. The first chairman of the league was Sejfulla Malëshova and honorary president Fan Noli. In this league acceded the most well known names of publications and Albanian arts as: Lasgush Poradeci, Dritëro Agolli, Ismail Kadare and many others too. This league has published some press organs in Albanian and French; the last of them is “Literary Magazine” after 90s.
The progress of this institution has had glory and suffering in the same time. There are 146 artist and writers, member of the league who have been persecuted, imprisoned even executed from the communist regime. Today the league of the writers and artists is closed. Near the center of Tirana, where have been this league, today is another public institution.
