Kruja’s first siege began on May 14th, 1450. The Ottoman army numbered 160,000 troops. The castle was protected by the Vrana Container’s garrison, and there were 2000 fighters, and 8,000 other Skanderbeg guerrillas attacked the highlands around the city causing to the enemy huge and continuous losses. Situated under sudden and uninterrupted hits and in difficulties major supply, the Ottoman army was forced in October of that year to retreat by suffering huge losses. Times chroniclers write that the death of Sultan Murat II was a consequence of this great defeat.
