July 21, 1452, is the anniversary of Gjergj Kastrioti’s victory in the battle of Modrica. Albanian fighters gave Ottoman troops commanded by Hamza Pasha, a sudden and easy blow. The part of the Ottoman army, who escaped, was welcomed in the stretch of the valley by the Albanian cavalry, commanded by Hamza Kastrioti. In the battle, the Ottomans have also killed many tire commanders themselves, slain. Modric’s victory was the first one against Ottoman forces since the time of the ascendancy of Sultan Mehmeti II. The young Sultan sent a second expedition, which suffered the fate of the first in the field of Mecca, where besides the other great losses, the Turkish expedition commander, Talip Pasha, was killed.
